Yo, my name's Melanie (preferably Mel) I'm 17, live just outside North West London. Gonna be blogging about albums, concerts/festivals, other music-y things and making cool playlists for you guys to check out.
And scene!
Now back to the actual reason for this post…
Yesterday I went to a festival at the Roundhouse in Camden, called Little Simz presents Welcome to Wonderland: the Experience ('the experience' part will become more evident later on). The whole festival was a sub part of a bigger festival the Roundhouse are putting on called, "Roundhouse Rising Festival" this festivals got loads more events happening with tickets still available so go check out the website I'll link it below (wow, I sounded like a real youtuber just then). Sidenote, if you went to rabbit hole stage let me know how it was and send some cool pics and vids if you got any (senseimelmusic@gmail.com) credit is always given don't worry I know how annoying that can be.
The first act on when I got in was Nerija; who are like a jazzy type hip-hop band, compromising of 6 musicians; 2 Saxophonists, a guitarist, trumpeter, trombonist, drummer and a cellist. Now I'm very fond of jazz so I was looking forward to this band but with the lack of lyrics I thought I may get bored after one song. But boy was I wrong, from the songs climaxes to the awesome solos from each musician their set was a complete vibe. I'll put the a few videos of all the acts I saw down below.
Quick shoutout to Dj Narx and Dj Miller and their sets in between acts you kept the crowd lit. Also to the visuals team last night because the visuals last night yeah? UNMATCHED.
Okay so next on was Tiffany Gouché who came all the way from Inglewood, California. Her music is like deep soul r&b with a little rappy feel to it. She's an amazing vocalist I must say and even though there were a few sound problems during her set. She's got a few projects dropping soon so check her out on soundcloud and let me know what you guys think.
So now yes to the shows 2nd headliner in a sense…MICK JENKINSSSSS!!!
I've been listening to Mick Jenkins for almost 3 years now (with my favourite tape of his being the Water[s]) and been in love with his music ever since. Mick Jenkins, I feel is one of those artists who are underrated and deserve a lot more recognition. He's a lyrical genius and is able to fuse together neo-jazz with hip-hop and rap over it so smoothly. He performed a lot of my favourite songs of his including: comfortable, the waters, spread love and rain (which is produced by one of my favourite producers Kaytranada). If you like artists like Joey Bada$$, Vic Mensa or Noname go check him out.
And finally the headliner and visionary who created this amazing festival…LITTLE SIMZ!
Now with all respect to Little Simz I had heard of her quite long ago but could never really get into her music. It wasn't until she dropped Stillness in Wonderland that I realised I wasn't actually LISTENING to her music. I then went back to listen to a few of her older songs and realised she's a force to be reckoned with and I can't wait to hear what she drops next. And didn't she have some surprises in store for us. From bringing out space age, to getting Chip and Ghetts on stage to perform King of Hearts, all the way to Stormzy and Kano even coming out to DESTROY the crowd with Dead Body. It's safe to say Little Simz along with her AWESOME band gave us the performance of her life and 110% ENERGYYY.
So here's where I sign off,
Thanks for reading guys don't forget to share this post with everyone and visit the website for more updates. (I know this post was long but I had a wicked time and wanted to share)
